Who we are
Safety First Group (SFG) is an environmental, health and safety firm based in Kountze, Texas. We provide complete EHS consulting, training, project management and turnaround support to companies across a broad spectrum of industries that must comply with OSHA guidelines, with deep roots in oil and gas, petrochemical and midstream work on the Gulf Coast.
Our parent company, Safety First Inc., was founded in 1997 by our CEO, Hunter Hawa. SFG carries that same mission forward: give clients one trusted source for all of their safety needs. Whether it is training, compliance, audits, inspection, commissioning, project management, QA/QC, safety or environmental management, we want to be the first name you call.

- We scale with your site. Support ranges from a few days a month to nested contractors on site 24/7/365, so coverage follows your production and turnaround calendar.
- Training that travels. Our SafetyAnywhere platform delivers site orientation and safety training online, so workers and contractors can finish it before they reach the gate.
Our leaders bring over 100 years of combined experience to the work, from HSSE and process safety management to plant operations, automation and the construction and commissioning of industrial facilities.
Our track record
Since 1997 our teams have supported some of the best-known names in energy and industry. Safety work for ExxonMobil, bp, Valero, Motiva, Marathon, Kinder Morgan and Targa Resources. Training programs for Hess, Chevron, Colonial Pipeline and Houston Metro. Commissioning for Hess, Cardon IV and DCP Midstream. Project management for Hess, Cardon IV and Total Petrochemicals.
For more than 25 years we have helped companies create workplace safety protocols that meet or exceed OSHA standards, including written safety programs for some of the largest energy companies in the world. Our CEO serves on advisory boards and as a lead subject matter expert for the Marine Well Containment Company, the Houston Business Roundtable, the Houston Area Safety Council and the Association of Reciprocal Safety Councils. Our COO led the project to design, build, ship, install and commission a 1.2 Bcf/d gas plant in Venezuela in 18 months.
